OIC Secretary General commemorates Khojaly Massacre

Jeddah, 26 February 2012. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the massacre in the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has paid tribute to all heroes and those who lost their lives during that atrocity in 1992.

The Secretary General recalled that on the night of 25th February 1992 the innocent people of Khojaly were ruthlessly massacred by the armed forces ofArmenia and local Armenian military in the Karabakh region. He further referred to the Resolution adopted by the 38th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, in June 2011, which considered the actions perpetrated against civilian Azerbaijani population in the occupied Azerbaijani territories as crimes against humanity.

While expressing his deep condolences to the people of Azerbaijan who lost their loved ones in the Khojaly massacre, the Secretary General reiterated the full support of the OIC to the initiatives and efforts of the Republic of Azerbaijan to put an end to the occupation of its territories.
